211 Information and Referral Call Center

What is the 2-1-1 Information and Referral Call Center?

A three-digit phone number connecting people to human services. This service is the "community connection" for those who want to help and or those who need help. Callers can receive referrals and information on human services such as counseling, financial management, food, shelter and affordable housing. People who want to volunteer can be easily connected to our volunteer center for opportunities such as mentoring and meal delivery, and donation opportunities.

When you dial 211 in the Northeast Georgia area, you speak with a trained referral specialist who can help you locate programs and services. Community Connection 211 is free, confidential and available 24 hours a day. If you have trouble connecting through 211, dial (706) 353-1313 or (800) 924-5085.

Can I just Dial 2-1-1?

Yes – it’s that easy!  2-1-1 is the national abbreviated dialing code for free access to health and human services information and referral (I&R). 2-1-1 is an easy-to-remember and universally recognizable number that makes a critical connection between individuals and families in need and the appropriate community-based organizations and government agencies. 2-1-1 makes it possible for people in need to navigate the complex and ever-growing maze of human services' agencies and programs. By making services easier to access, 2-1-1 encourages prevention and fosters self-sufficiency.

For more information about the nationwide implementation of 211, or to find an information and referral service in your area, please visit www.211.org.

Who can use 2-1-1?

Anyone needing access to human services. Through the AT&T Language Line, service is available in over 140 languages. All calls are confidential.  Each year, we receive more than 15,000 calls and provide more than 30,000 referrals to agencies that meet the needs of the caller.

How is the United Way involved?

United Ways have a long-standing commitment to funding information and referral (I&R) services in their communities. In fact, each year United Ways allocate approximately $15 million for I&R services. Over 500 United Ways fund or operate I&R call centers around the country.

In areas where information and referral services are already in operation, United Ways are encouraged to collaborate with local human services I&R centers to consider the most efficient and effective use of 2-1-1.  Community Connection’s 211 Information and Referral Call Center is partially supported by United Way of Northeast Georgia and United Way of Walton County to enable the operation of this important service.
