About Community Connection

In operation since 1984, the mission of Community Connection of Northeast Georgia is to nurture, develop, and maintain information & systems which empower individuals and communities to access needed resources and services. Our service area includes Barrow, Clarke, Elbert, Franklin, Greene, Stephens, Jackson, Madison, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Oglethorpe, and Walton counties.

We maintain a telephone Information and Referral service which helps individuals and organizations locate appropriate community resources, including food, clothing, shelter, housing, health care, aging services, volunteer opportunities and legal referrals. Our Child Care Resource and Referral Service offers enhanced support for parents and childcare providers.

Our current Executive Director is Julie Meehan. A Connecticut native, Julie Meehan moved to the warm south in 1994 to work as a VISTA volunteer with Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio. Since that time, she has filled many roles as a fundraiser for a civic engagement organization in Atlanta and relocated to Athens in 1999 to enroll in the Masters of Social Work program at UGA. In 2001, Ms. Meehan joined the staff of The Tree House, a Children's Advocacy Center serving Barrow, Banks, and Jackson counties. She was instrumental in developing the Tree House Advocacy and Crisis Intervention programs. Ms. Meehan was hired as Executive Director of Community Connection of Northeast Georgia in April 2004, bringing a wealth of program development, management, and fundraising experience to the organization.

Community Connection has supported and initiated other important programs: Athens Justice Project, The Nancy Travis House, the Sexual Assault Center, Project Safe, Athens Area Homeless Shelter, Georgia Options, Athens-Clarke County Family Connection Partnership, The Ark,and Rites of Passage were formerly under the umbrella of Community Connection. Presently, we provide administrative support for Child Care Resource and Referral.
